Schubert Ogden was born March 2, 1928, in Cincinnati, Ohio.  His education includes Ohio Wesleyan University, 1950, A.B.; Johns Hopkins University, 1950-51; The University of Chicago (The Divinity School), 1954, B.D., 1958, Ph.D.; Philipps-Universitat, Marburg, Germany, 1962-63.

Ogden was awarded honoray degrees of Doctor of Letters (Litt.D.) from Ohio Wesleyan University, 1965; Doctor of Humane Letters (L.H.D.) from the University of Chicago, 1983.  

He was ordained a Methodist minister, Ohio Conference, 1952 (deacon), 1958 (elder).  Member of the West Ohio Conference, the United Methodist Church.

Married to Joyce Ellen Schwettman, 1950; two children, Alan Scott (b. 1957) and Andrew Merrick (b. 1958).
