by Eric WeissThis paper is a paragraph-by-paragraph commentary on Chapter X of Science and the Modern World, in which Whitehead considers the nature of “abstraction.” Issues explored include the nature of the relationship between the actual and the possible; the structure of what Whitehead, in Process and Reality, calls the “ordering of the eternal objects,” and the nature of time and space as a structure of possibility which Whitehead terms the “spacetime relation.
