Abstract

If Whitehead and Hartshorne are political liberals (as is correctly argued by Randall Morris) then how does their thought square with that of the greatest contemporary defender of political liberalism, John Rawls?  In this article I respond to this question, relying on Rawls's recent book "Political Liberalism".  Hartshorne's more individualistic version of liberalism is distinguished from Whitehead's more communitarian version.  [Abstract from The Philosopher's Index]
