Abstract

In his analysis of Hartshorne's ethics, John Moskop has noted its resemblance to utilitarianism, suggesting its dependence upon the principle of utility and its subordination of the claims of justice to those of utility.  This study suggests that if one takes Hartshorne's understanding of the relation between ethics and theism seriously, one arrives at a notion of ethics different from that described by Moskop.  Therefore his argument remains unconvincing.  [Abstract from The Philosopher's Index]
