Abstract

This article presents facts about Whitehead's life that are not generally known.  Before he was thirty, he expressed a preference for change over homogeneity.  After a visit to Cardinal Newman, he long considered leaving the Anglican for the Roman church.  The upshot was that he embraced agnosticism.  World War I led him to turn to a theism he worked out for himself.  He was a loner; his character was seet but not simple.  [Abstract from The Philosopher's Index]
