Abstract

According to Whitehead a misunderstanding of the true nature of sense perception is the basis of the traditional notions of substance-quality, particular-universal, and unrepeatable-repeatable, which in turn are the source of serious epistemological and metaphysical difficulties.  Shows the significance of this thesis for understanding of Whitehead's conception of the aim of philosophy and its significance for the interpretation of specific aspects of Whitehead's philosophy, i.e., "the fallacy of misplaced concreteness".  [Abstract from The Philosopher's Index]
