Abstract
This article discusses the educational theory of Alfred North Whitehead focussing particularly on the rhythms of education, defined by him as romance, precision and generalization. The relation of the rhythms to the student's chronological age as well as a component of all aspects of nature itself is explored. Whitehead's aims of education are explained in part two of the article. The importance of activity in learning, the necessity to be creative and the broad definition that Whitehead gives to the concept of the aesthetic are also covered. Finally the prescriptions that education be for both generalists and specialists and that it have as its goal the teaching of a sense of duty and reverence is presented.
