Abstract

A translation of section 3.1 of "Whitehead: Prozessdenken und Substanzmetaphysik" (Freiburg/Munchen: 1981).  Studies the relationship of Whitehead's metaphysics to the traditional philosophy of substance, especially Aristotle's, and concludes that Whitehead's own conception of an 'actual entity' can in decisive points be regarded as a retrieval and a radicalization of the genuinely Aristotelian concept of entity.
