Abstract

Ely, Madden, Hare and Schulweis have charged that Whitehead's solution to the problem of evil does not allow for the actuality of genuine evils.  This charge is based upon a faulty understanding of Whitehead's theory of evil, an inappropriate understanding of what should constitute "apparent evil," and a failure to take sufficient notice of those passages in which Whitehead makes reference to what must be labeled "genuine evil."  [Abstract from The Philosopher's Index]
