Abstract
It is argued that John Cobb's proposal to introduce the notion of regional inclusion into Whitehead's scheme of ideas fails because the notion is incompatible, in principle, with categories at the absolute heart of Whitehead's philosophy. The argument explores (1) the nature of the unity of an actual entity, (2) the relevance of Whitehead's rejection of mind-body dualism, and (3) the relevance of Whitehead's critique of Newton. It is further argued that with regional inclusion discredited process theism is in trouble because it must fall back on either the view that past occasions are actual or the view that hybrid physical prehensions provide non-extensive relations between God and the world, and neither view will stand up to examination.
