Abstract
The concept of an ethereal body can be more easily defended from a Whiteheadian perspective than the notion of a disembodied soul. It is possible to envision a nexus of occasions developing within the physical organism, having the ability to exist independently, and having new members after the death of the physical "corpus". This nexus of physical occasions might have the capacity to support the route of regnant occasions and its accompanying mental routes. Such a phenomenon would be much like the ethereal or "astral" body of esoteric and eastern traditions. [Abstract from The Philosopher's Index]
