Abstract
Whitehead's views about perception cohere into two distinct theories, an early and a later one. I defend the early theory against objections which led Whitehead himself to his later theory. I criticize the later theory as reducing sensory experience to components that are either illusory or too vague for use as evidence. The later theory and its metaphysical foundation also violate the principle of parsimony in comparison to the early theory. [Abstract from The Philosopher’s Index]
