Abstract

This article is an attempt to link Whitehead's metaphysics with political categories.  Although we are looking for a distinctly Whiteheadian statement about politics, the limitations we face in discovering these political applications may direct us to an external stimulus to initiate speech in this new mode.  The theoretical work of Karl Deutsch is used to identify the terrain upon which organic philosophy can discover the form and content of its own particular political speech.  The focuses for this analytical comparison are: political models, communications, quality, values, power, justice, and growth.  The paper concludes that both men's theories are enriched by their interactions: Deutsch's political theory is related to a comprehensive and supportive philosophical framework and Whitehead's metaphysics is more fully related to the concrete world from which it springs.  [Abstract from The Philosopher’s Index]
