Abstract

Two classical concepts of "location," which seem at first glance to be exclusive and exhaustive, are shown to be both theoretically and pragmatically unsatisfactory, particularly as they apply to distinctions between "inside" and "outside."  An alternative view of location as "modal," developing a suggestion made in the writing of A. N. Whitehead, is proposed and developed in the article.  [Abstract from The Philosopher's Index]
