Abstract

Should God be understood, in Whitehead's system, as a single actual entity in everlasting concrescence, or as a society of successive actual entities?  This paper (i) considers and rejects three systematic arguments for the entitative view and defends two arguments for the societal view, (ii) investigates how the societal view affects a Whiteheadian understanding of God's will and freedom, and (iii) argues that only the societal view can take seriously the religious claim that god is faithful.  [Abstract from The Philosopher’s Index]
