Abstract
The interpretive method which Mays brings to Whitehead's later philosophy as well as a number of the resultant interpretations are investigated. Careful attention is paid to those cases in which Mays contends that the apparent metaphysical language of Process and Reality is best understood as obscure statements of Whitehead's earlier concerns and perspectives in mathematics and philosophy of science. I conclude that this method of interpretation does little to clarify Whitehead's later work and that in fact Mays must ignore or contradict passages in Whitehead that resist the proffered interpretation.
