Abstract

An examination of Whitehead's view in terms of its components and of the stages in which it develops, together with some critical comments.  The components treated include passage and creativity, continuous change, duration, events, prehensive unification, and the atomic occasion.  Among merits of the view are comprehensiveness and definitional thwarting of objections.  Its main drawback is insufficient recognition of the character of the whole and part relation.  [Abstract from The Philosopher’s Index]
