Abstract

Whiteheadian metaphysics is adapted to a literary use in Olaf Stapledon's novel, "Star Maker".  Stapledon, a philosopher and novelist, analyzes Whiteheadian thought in an article in "Philosophy 4" and in his book, "Philosophy and Living".  In the latter work he states his preference for Whitehead's metaphysics.  A textual analysis of "Star Maker" reveals a Whiteheadian organic theory of nature, a dipolar God, a conception of evolutionary creativity for the created and creator, a theory of objective immortality, and an identification of harmony and peace as the ultimate values.  [Abstract from The Philosopher's Index]
