Abstract
This is the introduction to a special focus section on Whitehead and psychotherapy, containing essays: by Mary Elizabeth Moore, David E. Roy, and Robert Brizee. Psychotherapeutic theory cannot be deduced from Whitehead’s conceptuality, but this conceptuality can be tested by its applicability in the field. This test requires some distinction between the empirical data and the form in which these are presented in existing schools. As this is done, a variety of existing practices can be understood and affirmed from a Whiteheadian perspective. This perspective also suggests fresh approaches to psychotherapy, some of which are proposed here.
