Williamson, Clark M. and Ronald J. Allen. A Credible and Timely Word: Process Theology and Preaching. St. Lewis, MO: Chalice Press, 1991.
Abstract
Can preachers be faithful both to the biblical text and to their deepest convictions about God? What is to be done with problematic texts that offend moral sensibilities? Will process theology "preach"? The authors skillfully address these and other questions in this non-technical introduction to the use of a process/relational vision in sermon preparation. Williamson and Allen discuss alternative models of God, interrelating process ways of talking about God with the biblical witness and showing that such ways of talking are indeed appropriate to that witness. The challenge of preaching on issues of systemic injustice provides a transition to their presentation of a practical "process hermeneutic." An interpretation of selected biblical texts and a pair of sermons helpfully illustrate the authors' proposals for faithful and honest preaching.
