Abstract

This paper is based on a talk given at the 25th annual meeting of the Association for Transpersonal Psychology and attempts to provide a conceptual history of the transpersonal movement as well as an assessment of the current state of the art. Topics discussed include mapping and comparing states of consciousness, transpersonal development and the practices that foster it, lucid dreaming, enlightenment, and new understandings of the nature of religion. Finally the global crises we are facing and the implications of a transpersonal perspective for understanding and alleviating these crises are examined.
