Waldenfels, Hans., tr. J. W. Heisig. Absolute Nothingness: Foundations for a Buddhist-Christian Dialogue. New York: Paulist Press, 1980.
Abstract
This
is a major breakthrough book in Buddhist-Christian dialogue. Published
in cooperation with the Nanzan Institute for Religion and Culture in
Nagoya, Japan, Absolute
Nothingness is essentially a comparative philosophical and
theological study which endeavors to relate the Kyoto School of
Buddhism to Christian tradition. Hans Waldenfels is eminently qualified
to write this volume. He is a theologian, philosopher, and highly
trained Buddhist scholar who lived in Japan for many years where he
gained first-hand experience with members of the Kyoto School. One of
the major questions treated in this book is that of spiritual emptiness
as it is experienced in the traditions of East and West. We have here
the basis for a true encounter between Buddhists and Christians.
