Abstract

Originally a paper presented to the Conference on "Heidegger, Mahayana Buddhism and Whitehead: Perspectives on Interfaith Dialogue" held October 26-28, 1978 in the School of Theology at Claremont, ca., the article deals 1) with the methodology of the dialogue between Buddhists and Christians, 2) the question whether or not nothingness cound be considered common ground upon which the dialogue is based, and 3) the problems arising by transferring the human concept of person upon God. The author suggests a redefinition of person on the basis of Buddhist "anatta", for a better understanding of God in the sense of kenotic theology and the Buddhist concept of "sunyata".  [Abstract from ATLA Religion]
