Stone, Bryan P. and Thomas Jay Oord, eds. Thy Nature and Thy Name is Love: Wesleyan and Process Theologies in Dialogue. Nashville: Kingswood Books, 2001.
Abstract
Thy Nature and Thy Name is Love
brings leading scholars into dialogue over points of convergence and
divergence between Wesleyan theology and process theology. Many
Wesleyan scholars have found process thought helpful in articulating a
theology that remains true to Methodist precedent while also being
sensitive to shifts in the cultural and intellectual climate of recent
years. In turn, process thinkers interested in identifying older
streams of Christian thought and practice that are more or less
compatible with their philosophical commitments have found Methodists
congenial conversation partners. This diverse group of authors, which
includes African American and women scholars, addresses issues of
doctrine and methodology. The collection results in a clearer view of
current trends in both Wesleyan and process thought and sets forth an
agenda for further discussion as scholars continue to search for
language to express, as best they can, the nature of God for each
successive generation.
