Abstract
This paper offers an alternative notion to that of the artist as, in the strict sense, a "creator." In doing so, the author posits an intimate and essential connection between interpersonal relation and the artistic response to beauty. Drawing from the works of Martin Buber ("I and Thou") and Alfred North Whitehead (Adventures of Ideas"), the piece recognizes both the truly artful human life and the truly human artistic endeavor as moments of encounter with the transcendent (sacred) element of the created universe.
