Abstract

Although Indian philosophies—in contrast to Whitehead’s philosophy—are based on revelation rather than reason and hold that philosophy is of value only in the context of self-realization, these are some affinities between Whitehead’s thought and Saiva’s theistic absolution.  Both see reality as comproming both elements of flux and permanence.  Both have an ideal of rational and consistent explanation of reality and both view god as related to the cosmic process.
