Sarkar, Anil Kumar. Sri Aurobindo's Vision of the Supermind. NewDelhi: South Asian Publishers, 1989.
Abstract
This book is an attempt to interpret Sri Aurobindo's supermind as an extended consciousness beyond the Fourth (Turiya) of the Upanishad's thinkers clarifying the double-function of the Supramental processes by way of Descent to the Matter and by Ascent to the Spirit - spanning the Gulf between the two extreme poles of Reality - Matter and Spirit. The author in shaping this work utilizes throughout Aurobindo's major works from The Life Divine and Savitri, The Synthesis of Yoga and The Mind of Light
and evaluates the specialized contributions of the Indian and
non-Indian thinkers closely pursuing the Symposium Volume entitled, The Integral Philosophy of Sri Aurobindo.
In this over-all treatment from chapter to chapter, he maintains a
specialty indicating the multifaceted approaches of Sri Aurobindo and
some thinkers on Aurobindo. Finally the author suggests that
Aurobindo's supramental approach
to the varied aspects of experiential processes is non-different from
the advanced deliberations of Whitehead in the non-discursive
post-intellectual process and pursuit of Peace.
