Sanders, James A. God Has a Story: Sermons in Context. Philadelphia: Fortress Press, 1979.
Abstract
The Bible is God's story and it
needs to be told with vigor to each generation. James A. Sanders does
what interpreters of the Bible have long wished the ancient Biblical
writers had done. He provides the environment and setting for which his
sermons were written and then explains the hermeneutics by which he
moved from Scripture to sermon. Stressing the Bible as God's story,
Sanders explores the importance of the three basic elements of
proclamation: text, context, and hermeneutics. Nine examples of the
author's preaching, with introductions focusing on these elements,
illustrate the interrelationship. After summarizing the impact and
significance of his preaching, Sanders concludes with a fascinating
recital of God's story.
