Abstract

Attempts to overcome the dualism of mind and nature usually result in a one-sided account of their relation.  On the one hand we find the example of Hegel where too great a role is assigned to the place of mind in the general scheme of things.  On the other hand we have the example of Nietzsche's radical naturalism.  To make sense of the relation between mind and nature in a way which does justice to the particular character of each it is suggested we appeal to Whitehead's reciprocal analysis of the imminent unity of mind in nature as well as nature in mind.  [Abstract from The Philosopher's Index]
