Pols, Edward. “Human Agents as Fundamental Entities.” (Unpubl.)

Abstract

In contrast to Whitehead's doctrine of self, Pols calls the human self an entity, a fundamental entity, whose actions are not to be dealt with reductively.  Mentality cannot be reduced to physical activity alone.  Although the agents' power is dependent upon the nervous system, this same power is a-symmetrically exerted over the nervous system.
