Abstract

In reply to Cobb (S J Phil Wint 69-70):  Whitehead does indeed describe an entity's (epochal) genesis in terms of ordinary temporality and causally related phases, thus raising problems about an entity's freedom.  In reply to Ford (Mod Schoolman, Jan 70):  The indivisibility of subjective aim required by epochal theory also raises problems about freedom.  Both tendencies are present in Whitehead's language.
