Unlike much of modern philosophy, Whitehead has appropriated the values of the philosophical tradition.  In his attempt to answer some of the basic questions of causality, actuality, mentality and his attempt to establish a system to unify knowledge, Whitehead is keeping alive the Cartesian approach to science and philosophy.
