Abstract

The relation between faith and justice has metaphysical as well as moral implications.  Faith and justice are in principle different because faith is a matter of self-understanding while justice is a matter of human action.  At the same time, faith and justice are in principle connected insofar as any self-understanding necessarily has implications for human action.  But just as the moral implication of faith is the demand for justice, including political justice, so the justice that faith demands implies certain metaphysical positions, including "self" as duplex, "God" as dipolar, and "world" as attributively monistic but substantively pluralistic.  [Abstract from The Philosopher's Index]
