Nakamura, Noboru. The Philosophy of Whitehead. Tokyo, Japan: Kodansha, June 2007.
Abstract
This book has three chapters. Their titles are as follows;
chap. 1 before introduction, chap.2 introduction, chap.3 what is an
epochal
time? In the first chapter, the background and outline of the
philosophy of
Whitehead is described. For example, what an event is electromagnetic
epoch,
the theory of relativity, nature as a live, the fallacy of misplaced
concreteness, and so on. The second chapter explains the core concepts
in the
philosophy of Whitehead. Actual entity, prehension, eternal object,
feeling,
symbolic reference, supereject etc. And the last chapter’s theme is the
time
theory of Whitehead, which is called “the theory of epochal time.” This
theory
is compared with the time theory of Buddhism and Bergson. This last
chapter is
a little bit difficult, but basically, this book is a plain
introduction to
Whitehead’s philosophy. (Noboru Nakamura)
