Abstract

This article shows the interrelationship between God concepts, depression and psychophysiology. The first section describes the condition of depression and an example of its pharmacological treatment. The second section uses the examples of Plutarch, Job, and Luther to discuss the relationship between God concepts and depression. The final section and conclusion discuss theological methodology in relationship to Whitehead’s concept of God as an alternative to some more traditional concepts. The etiological circle of God concepts, psychophysiology and depression deserves more attention as more is discovered about the medical and emotional aspects of depression and the doing of theology.
