Abstract
Cry of the Environment
is a book about vision: vision through the eyes of twenty-three noted
scholars - theologians, scientists, teachers, ecologists, and artists -
as to how and why Western civilization came to exploit and dominate the
environment, rather than live in harmony with it, as do other
traditional societies. Through the eyes of these scholars we can learn
to revision creation consciousness in the modern-day world, so that we
worship all living things - including human beings - as part of the
same creation. Cry
is the first complete theological study of the environmental crisis.
Senior editor Philip N. Joranson researched these essays over a
ten-year period as director of the Environment and Christian Creation
Tradition Project. The resulting book is an invaluable, first-time
resource for those interested in tracing the Judeo-Christian roots of
our environmental crisis and finding new approaches, theoretical and
practical, to environmental study.
