Abstract

The proposal of this paper is that the recovery of the notion of soul would make a major contribution to both spirituality and social transformation. The recovery of soul is predicated on a Hebraic understanding of Nephesh and a process understanding of the soul as “presiding” or “dominant” occasion. The soul is seen as a society of such occasions; and as such it contributes the structure of experience explicating the possibility of intercessory prayer. Intercessory prayer is viewed as one important way to social transformation.
