Abstract

The civilization ordains and restricts the life of people. On the contrary, the life of people modifies and reforms the civilization. Today’s material civilization (物質文明) on the basis of scientific technology shows the abuse caused by reaching its peak. So we need to propose and discuss about the alternative civilization. The alternative civilization has to offer us a new paradigm for understanding human beings and human life.
We can propose the ‘moralistic civilization’ (道德文明) as an alternative civilization. The material civilization that takes human for pursuing the matter regards an material prosperity as the great value. However, the moralistic civilization pursues morality as the higher value than material prosperity, because it understands the human as the ‘moral-oriental being.’ This paper is a tentative investigation about ‘the moralistic civilization’ that is pursued by Kaengjoengyodo (更定儒道) in the context of the condition of the alternative civilization.
