Abstract
Edward’s criticism of Whitehead’s theory of the self as a society fails because: 1. God, like the self, is not exempt from the epochal theory of time; 2. Edward’s “gap theory” criticism rests on a return to Newtonian time and to the fallacy of simple location. Edwards correctly sees that the theory of the self as a society is an inevitable outcome of the epochal theory of time.
