Abstract

In this book, Burton, himself a Buddhist, puts Nagarjuna's philosophy of emptiness to the test of critical reason. The result of this test, he argues, is a resounding failure: Nagarjuna's arguments are found to be generally fallacious. Although some readers will admire Burton's careful arguments and close textual analysis, others will regard his unsympathetic interpretation as naively brash.
