Abstract
Whitehead's references (about 120) are listed--either quotations, paraphrases or allusions, almost equally divided between old testament (chiefly narratives) and new testament (mostly gospels). They occur in all his works written after he moved to London in 1910. They are concerned with science, religion, philosophy, history and ethics. He uses some as illustrations, but more often simply as a source of telling phrases, sometimes with a meaning quite foreign to the original, often with a touch of humor. They do not indicate that the bible was the immediate source of his religious and philosophical ideas. [Abstract from The Philosophers Index]
