Abstract
Christianity and Buddhism are
sometimes
perceived as antithetical, such that a choice must be made between the
fullness (pleroma) of God in Christ (Col. 1:19) and the Buddha's Void
(sunyata). However, after surveying the notion of nothingness more
generally in philosophy, art and science, the author seeks to establish
commonalities between the two religions by drawing out the key role of
nothingness within the Christian tradition and the fullness inherent in
the concept of sunyata.
