Abstract

The aim of the paper is to delineate some similarities and contrasts between Mead's conception of emergence and Whitehead's conception of creation.  It is shown that the differences exhibit a pattern according to which Whitehead's system of thought seems to be more inclusive than Mead's.  It is then argued that Whitehead's metaphysical approach, as opposed to Mead's epistemological one, accounts for this more inclusive character of his system.  [Abstract from The Philosophers Index]
