Abstract
One of Whitehead's primary motives was to construct a metaphysical system in which the aesthetic, moral and religious interests could be brought into relation with those concepts of the world which have their origin in natural science. Within this metaphysical framework the aesthetic contrasts are not only preserved but they also obtain a primacy. The application of these contrasts to aesthetic experience shows that there is a gradation of aesthetic contrasts analogous to that of metaphysical ones. The correlation of these two sets of contrasts clarifies many problems related to aesthetic experience, to aesthetic object, and to artistic creation. It also proves inconsistent and unjustifiable any bifurcation within the aesthetic experience. . [Abstract from The Philosopher’s Index]
