New PhD in Process Studies (September 2009)

It is with great pleasure that we are able to announce that the responsible accreditation agencies have granted Claremont School of Theology approval to install a new Ph.D. program in Religion with a concentration in Process Studies. The purpose of the new Ph.D. program in Process Studies is to train future leaders in process-relational approaches to the study of ecology, culture, and religion today; to address key areas of debate that arise at the intersection of religion, culture, and nature; and to provide academic leaders, religious leaders, and leaders in society with the tools necessary for understanding interconnections between ecology, culture, and religion in this postmodern and pluralistic world. Supporting the Process Vision (July 2009)

Like us, no doubt, you are bombarded with appeals from many worthy causes. You have to prioritize. We think the vision of the Center for Process Studies (CPS) is desperately needed for the redirection of human efforts. We rejoice in the growing interest in process thought around the world, with the organization of new societies and centers, most recently in Congo.

As our opportunities grow, our income needs to increase. CPS continues its mission of exploring the relevance of process thought to many fields of reflection and action. This mission includes the journal Process Studies and the newsmagazine Process Perspectives, expansion of CPS library resources, and support for projects in China, Korea, and Latin America. CPS staff consult with visiting scholars and with students who come to Claremont to study and to explore vocational interests. To continue the Center’s mission we need your help. Transforming Theology Initiative (March 2009)

The Ford Foundation is helping to fund Transforming Theology, a program led by CPS Co-Directors Philip Clayton and Marjorie Suchocki that aims to rekindle theological imagination and to support progressive theologies transform churches and society. In partnership with theologians, denominational leaders, and seminary presidents, Transforming Theology is working to break down the walls between academic theology and the church, putting theology back in the hands of pastors and laypersons.

The first meeting was held March 13-14, 2009, and brought together leading progressive theologians from across the country to offer constructive suggestions for how theology can transform the church and contribute to progressive social transformation of society. The next meeting, "Visions for the Future," is a made-for-media public event and will be held on May 28, 2009, at 7:00 pm in the Mudd Theater, Claremont School of Theology. We invite you to attend and listen. Visit transformingtheology.org for more details.
